NLITE-A Powerful Tool To Modify Your Xp CD(HDD not detecting in Xp installation??)
Nlite is a cool app with which you can create your own xp CD with custom features and added hotfixes and updates. This post has been a result of my old PC which does not support the SATA ie, the SATA controller is not supported and so the xp installation in the pc was like hell. I had to insert xp CD and press F6 when prompted and i had to write the floppy image available with my Mother Board CD to a floppy and insert it..
Latter i found a method called as slip-streaming to integrate the storage drivers into your XP installation CD.
To my excitement i found that the latest LAPTOPS also face the same problem and these laptops withought a floppy drive suffered a lot.
So here I’m goin to post how i did that procedure for all those unfortunate laptop owners, Never think unfortunate again..here is it…itz simple and can be done by every one..Only that you have to take some effort..so here it goes..
Here as i said, we use a software called nLite to create a new XP install cd, so you’ll first need to download and install it. Once it starts up, you’ll be prompted for your Windows installation, so you’ll have to click the Browse button and select the CD or Image mounted in a drive.
You can also copy the contents from the CD to any drive and show the folder instead

If you have chosen the Image or CD then you will be prompted for yet another step..’to choose the folder or location to save the files for further modifications’.

Choose a location as i have did.

The nLite wizard will now copy the contents to the folder you have selected.

Netx step is the most important one. Here we choose what all components we have to insert into the XP

we can choose Service Packs, Hotfixes, Add-ons, Update Packs, Drivers, Tweeks..everything you need in your new XP. Choosing The UNATTENDED option will guide you through a seris of procedures to make your xp CD unattended, That is Your xp installation will be fully automated, no entering serial, no selecting language or location..everything will be shown in the pictures below..
Browse and show the updates when prompted..

In the driver addition menu you can either select a single driver,or a folder of drivers…this is a place where you can add all your drivers and make installing xp more easier

the next window is where you make the xp installation unattended…here there will be option for setting time region, serial, language, etc…i have hidden the full details because i dont wish to show my xp serial in public..!!. The procedure is simple and can be done by everyone..

start the procedure confirmation..hit Yes

At the next step choose Make ISO..and you are done..!!!!!!!

FINDING THE DRIVERS IS A PIECE OF CAKE..!!!
The best place to search for drivers for your hardware is at the manufacturer’s support website. The only problem is that almost every manufacturer seems to distribute their drivers in floppy disk image form, even though the computer they are for doesn’t have a floppy drive. Guess nobody has alerted them to get with the program.
We can still extract the drivers using an application called WinImage. Let’s run through a quick example… Here you can see the Intel SATA controller driver for my HP computer.

I downloaded and ran the executable, which extracted a file called f6flpy32.exe into a temporary directory. Don’t bother trying to run this one, because it’ll just prompt you for a floppy drive.

So how to get the drivers out of this file? There are a few options that you can try, depending on how the manufacturer packed the files.
- You can use Winimage to extract them, which is a shareware software, but you can use it during the trial period for free.
- You can try and use WinRar to extract the file. In many instances this will extract a *.flp file, which you can mount in a VMware virtual machine or potentially with some ISO mounting software.
- Some drivers will allow you to automatically extract into a directory. You’ll have to try it and see what happens.
- Other methods? If you’ve got other ideas, leave them in the comments and I’ll add them to this list.
Here’s the list of files that Winimage can handle, which is quite a lot.

Start WinImage and then open the file, and you should see the contents. Just extract them to a folder, preferably with a useful name so you can remember it later.
